Why Would Somebody Want Plastic Surgery?
Plastic surgery falls into two broad categories: cosmetic and reconstructive. Cosmetic procedures are done to enhance the client’s appearance. Tummy tucks and facelifts are common examples of cosmetic surgical procedures. Cosmetic procedures are considered elective or not medically necessary.
Reconstructive surgery, by contrast, is done to restore normal function and/or appearance to the patient. It is done to correct damage caused by injuries, birth defects, severe burns, or cancer. While it can be elective, it is usually medically necessary for the patient to lead a normal life.
Some procedures can be either cosmetic or reconstructive or even both. Rhinoplasties, for example, can be done to make the client’s nose more attractive, or they can be done to help them breathe more easily by correcting a deviated septum. Oftentimes, both things are addressed in one procedure.
Most of the procedures offered by Hanemann Plastic Surgery are cosmetic. Some examples of procedures, besides rhinoplasties, that can be reconstructive include:
• Male breast reduction
• Breast reconstruction
What Is Breast Reconstruction?
Breast reconstruction is a procedure done on women who have lost part or all of a breast to a mastectomy. Our surgeon literally creates a new breast to give the patient a more normal appearance. It can be done on one or both breasts.
What Are Camouflage Cosmetics?
Camouflage cosmetics are used to hide the temporary results of surgery like bruising, swelling or visible surgical marks. They tend to be thicker and more water resistant than regular cosmetics. A patient may typically start using them a few days after surgery with our doctor’s permission.
