Although visible signs of aging on the face affect everyone, sometimes they are more prevalent on the chin and jawline. At Hanemann Plastic Surgery, our neck lift procedure adds contour and definition back to those areas for a more visually appealing profile.

Hanemann Plastic Surgery serves the Baton Rouge area in Louisiana with surgical and nonsurgical procedures for the face, body, breast and skin. Contact us today to schedule a consultation with board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Hanemann.

What is a Neck Lift?

For individuals whose signs of aging are primarily in the neck area and do not require a full facelift procedure, a neck lift is a possible option. Also known as a lower rhytidectomy, a neck lift can correct multiple signs of aging:

  • Excess fat and skin that create the jowled appearance in the lower jaw
  • Fat deposits underneath the chin
  • Sagging or loose neck skin that creates a “turkey wattle”
  • Muscle banding in the neck

Whether these issues are caused by stress, heredity or other environmental factors, a neck lift at Hanemann Plastic Surgery can help. There are several techniques available to perform neck lift surgery as well as other facial enhancing procedures that can be done in conjunction. These options will be discussed with you prior to surgery to determine which course of treatment is right for you.

During a traditional neck lift, an incision is made in the hairline of the sideburns and continues around the ear, ending in the hair at the back of your head. Doctor Hanemann will then redistribute or sculpt the fat and reposition underlying tissues for better definition and contours.

The skin is then lifted and redraped, smoothing out signs of aging and creating a rejuvenated, more youthful appearance.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?

If you are experiencing excess skin or fat deposits in the jawline and neck and either do not want or do not qualify for a full facelift, you may be a candidate for neck lift surgery. During your consultation, Dr. Hanemann will evaluate factors such as your general health, medical history and cosmetic goals to determine if this procedure is right for you.

What is Recovery Like?

Bandages may be placed around your neck after surgery to minimize swelling and bruising, and a small surgical drain may be placed to collect any excess fluid. You may be advised to sleep with your head elevated for a period of time to further control swelling, and excessive bending or twisting of the neck should be avoided during healing.

Doctor Hanemann will provide you with instructions on how to care for your incision sites to reduce the risks of infection and complications, and your healing and progress will be monitored through follow-up appointments.

The results of a neck lift are permanent but can still be affected by significant weight changes, gravity and aging.
